Chickpeas Bulk 1kg

$8.00

NZD Including GST

1kg of these chickpeas will make around 13 cups of cooked chickpeas
This is around the same as 9 tins of chickpeas.

If you purchase from the supermarket, 9 Tins  @ $2 each = $18.  Cooking them yourself will cost you under $1 per tin.  Saving around $10. Plus the freshness and less packaging.

Cooking your own chickpeas offer far more flavor than canned beans, especially when making yoru own hummus.  Dried are also a lot less expensive than canned beans, and they reduce waste (no cans to throw away).

Stove top cooking dried chickpeas
How long your chickpeas will take to cook will depend on how long they have been dried and stored for.

  1. Soak the chickpeas overnight.
  2. Drain your soaked chickpeas and tip them into a pan.
  3. Add cold water until you have twice the volume of the chickpeas.
  4. Bring the water to a boil, then turn the heat down and simmer the chickpeas for 45 mins (if you are going to cook them further in another dish) or up to 1 hour. Taste to see if they are tender. If not, continue cooking, checking the tenderness every 10 mins. Drain.

If you want to cook a whole bag at a time and freeze them in batches then cool them first. They will freeze for up to a month or keep in the fridge for up to three days.

Ingredients: chickpeas.

May contain: gluten (oats, wheat, barley) peanut, hazelnut, almond, walnuts, pecan, Brazil nut, pistachio, cashew, soy, sesame, lupin, sulphites.
